Elon Musk’s Growing Family: From Tragedy to Legacy
Over the years, Elon Musk has welcomed several children with four different women Justine Wilson, Grimes, Shivon Zilis, and Ashley St. Clair.

Musk’s journey into fatherhood began with his first wife, Canadian author Justine Wilson. The couple married in January 2000 and welcomed their first son, Nevada Alexander, in 2002. Tragically, Nevada passed away at just 10 weeks old due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), a loss that deeply shaped both parents.

Determined to continue building their family, Musk and Wilson later welcomed twins, Vivian and Griffin, in 2004, followed by triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian in 2006.

After parting ways with Justine Wilson in 2008, the South African-born entrepreneur moved on romantically with British actress Talulah Riley whom he married and divorced twice and later with actress Amber Heard.

In 2018, Elon Musk made headlines again when he went public with his relationship with musician Grimes. Two years later, Grimes revealed on Instagram that she was expecting their first child, capturing global attention with her unconventional announcement.

Grimes gave birth to their son, X Æ A-12 (later adjusted to X AE A-XII for legal reasons), in May 2020 instantly sparking curiosity around the world with his unique name. Although she and Musk announced their separation in September 2021, their story didn’t end there. Just a few months later, in December 2021, the pair quietly welcomed their second child, a daughter named Exa Dark Sideræl, via surrogate.Keep scrolling to see how the University of Pennsylvania grad’s family has grown over the years.

Vivian and Griffin

In June 2020, Elon Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, shared a heartfelt Father’s Day moment on Twitter, posting a rare photo of Elon with his twin sons.

However, two years later, a deeply personal development made headlines. In April 2022, Vivian, one of the twins, filed a legal request to change her name and gender, seeking to be recognized as female and to adopt her mother’s surname, Wilson.

“I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form,” she stated in court documents. The request was granted by a Los Angeles judge in June 2022.

Later, in July 2022, Musk offered a rare glimpse into his family life by posting a photo on Twitter of himself with the triplets and his son Griffin during a visit to meet Pope Francis at the Vatican.
“Honored to meet @Pontifex yesterday,” he captioned the post, which quickly gained viral attention.

In July 2022, court documents obtained by Insider revealed that Elon Musk had quietly welcomed twins with Shivon Zilis, a top executive at Neuralink, in November 2021—just weeks before the birth of his daughter Exa with Grimes. The twins were later confirmed to be named Strider and Azure. Neither Musk nor Zilis has publicly commented on the nature of their relationship.

In June 2024, news broke that the pair had welcomed a third child, a daughter named Arcadia. Then, in February 2025, they revealed they also share a youngest son named Seldon. The exact birth dates of Arcadia and Seldon remain undisclosed.

Romulus

On February 14, 2025, author Ashley St. Clair made a surprising revelation via social media: she and Elon Musk had secretly welcomed a child months earlier.

“Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father,” she wrote. “I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child’s privacy and safety, but in recent days it has become clear that tabloid media intends to do so, regardless of the harm it will cause.”

St. Clair emphasized her desire to raise the child in peace:
“I intend to allow our child to grow in a normal and safe environment. For that reason, I ask that the media honor our child’s privacy and refrain from invasive reporting.”

A representative for St. Clair confirmed that she and Musk had been “privately working toward” a parenting agreement. Musk has not publicly commented on the child or their co-parenting arrangement.

In April 2025, The Wall Street Journal reported that the child a son had been named Romulus.
